Goat milk soap is on the rise. Here's why.

Milk has been used as a powerful skincare ingredient since the beginning of time. Goat milk, in particular, packs a serious punch and is a great addition to soap. We wanted to share a little bit more about the powerful benefits of goat milk, since it is an ingredient that pops up quite often in our curations of natural soap bars.

Goat milk is an all-natural, non-toxic, powerhouse ingredient that smooths, soothes, moisturizes and brightens the skin. It is both a gentle exfoliator and a super hydrator. It helps to clear away discoloration and is known for its anti-aging properties. Goat milk is also known to help several skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema. But regardless of your skin type -- sensitive or not -- you will benefit from using a handcrafted soap made with raw goat milk. Let's dive in to explore some of these skincare benefits in more detail.

1. Gentle and Soothing
Goat milk soap works wonders on sensitive skin. It’s even gentle enough for babies. And you may be wondering why. Experts will tell you that goat milk has the same PH balance as human skin, which means it doesn’t disrupt our “acid mantle” -- a thin layer on our skin’s surface that helps to maintain a healthy barrier.

People who suffer from skin conditions like eczema often experience sensitivity to skincare products. This is not the case with goat milk soap. Due to its rich fatty acid content, goat milk is also super soothing. These fatty acids, namely capric, caprylic, caproic, are said to have antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.

2. Moisturizing
The fat molecules in goat milk moisturize the skin by penetrating quickly and deeply, sealing the water in. The proteins in goat milk (amino acids) and its Vitamin B5 content act as humectants – which attract water molecules to themselves. The actions of both proteins and fats in goat milk are synergistic, delivering intense hydration and moisture to the skin. The overall effect is that your skin feels softer and smoother for longer periods of time.

3. Cleansing & Exfoliating
Goat milk is beloved by skincare aficionados for its lactic acid content -- a key selling point. Lactic acid has great cleansing and exfoliating properties. It unclogs pores and helps to keep them clear of dirt and bacteria, without stripping skin of natural oils. This makes goat milk soap a great treatment for acne. Lactic acid also has natural exfoliating properties. It helps to slough away dead skin cells from the surface of your skin and ensures the growth of new healthy ones. An accumulation of dead skin cells is a common cause for irritation, and it can also make your skin appear dull. The exfoliating properties of goat milk means that its moisturizing benefits penetrate more easily. The end result is glowing, younger-looking skin.

4. Nourishing
Goat milk is rich in micronutrients and vitamins like vitamin A, C, D, B, and E, along with minerals such as zinc, copper, iron, and selenium. Vitamins A, C and E are powerful antioxidants with anti-aging benefits and they play a key role in preventing the oxidative damages caused by free radicals in the environment. Goat milk is particularly rich in Vitamin A, which helps to repair damaged tissues and promotes the natural softening of skin. Studies show that Vitamin A also helps to prevent acne and reduce lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C in goat milk promotes the production of collagen, and this works to prevent dryness and wrinkles. Vitamin E also has anti-aging benefits and helps in reducing dark spots.

Selenium is a mineral with antioxidant properties that also helps to reduce signs of premature aging of the skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties and is known to help with sunburn.
