Trinidadian designer, Shoma Persad, has developed a cult following across the Caribbean over the last six years -- beloved for her intricately crafted pieces and whimsical silhouettes. This year marked a rebirth for Shoma as she launched her new eponymous label with a dreamy debut collection -- Tropical Masquerade. The enchanting collection is described as a reflection of the splendor of the Caribbean through quintessential Trinbagonian flair.
Tropical Masquerade features exclusive prints from illustrator James Hackett, which represent the vibrant flora and fauna of the Caribbean. The collection is a significant pivot from her previous collections and shows remarkable maturity in the designer's aesthetic. Tropical Masquerade reads like a love letter to Trinidad and Tobago, and with this collection, Shoma hopes to stretch our imagination of what Caribbean resort wear can be.
"We wanted to change the idea of what resort wear could be. We often think of it as simply bikinis and cover ups – but it is and can be so much more than that. We are the Caribbean and we have to tell the world what that means from a fashion point of view."
